ART 2

*Required: a sketchbook 5x7 or larger, pencils.

Introduction & objectives:

We will be taking the fundamentals of art that you have acquired in previous classes and expand your artistic horizon towards the infinite abyss that is the human depiction of life. I plan on having you build up from the flat plains to a more diverse expansion of your 3-d visions. You should be thinking about your art in a tactile and interactive experience that might provoke a response.

 Course Structure:

Class will be based on structure and personal responsibility towards the current project completion. The majority of the class time will be given to in class work and instruction/demonstration. Partial time may be allotted to group projects, discussion, vocabulary and content material. You are responsible for the completion of your projects and you hold the key to the expansion of your artistic mind.

Course Requirements:

  • Attendance: Due to the experimental nature of a studio art class a participatory demand is placed upon the art student to engage in class time. It is mandatory that students attend and produce work in class because of the personal assistance needed in the media. The students will be receiving daily points for their attendance that will be applied toward their overall grade. Tardies and absences will decrease their overall points so be on time-be present for the entire class-be prepared to work.

  • Participation/Class Etiquette: This class will be a lab setting that will require you the student to stay on task and complete the current projects in the allotted time. You will be given instructions and resources to complete each task in the allotted time. Miss-use of in class time, ignoring class activities, destruction of property, and disrespect of classmates can resort in a reduction of your participation grade and in some cases suspension .

o       Assignments:

Each project will require you to keep track of the steps you took to get to the final product this might be referenced in later critiques. A brief group discussion regarding your work will be part of your final grade for each project. This course will be building on the information received in art 1. We will be building up and out in  3-d forms and experimenting in new mediums. Projects will vary depending on materials available and the allotted time to create in class. Some mediums I hope to address: Plaster, Clay, Mix mediums, wood, wire etc.
