Finish Song Presentations

When song presentations are completed, students can bring in music of their choice (must be school appropriate) and share it with the class.

 5/20-5/24

    Students are to individually work on their song analysis and presentation all week.

    Presentations on 5/24 or 5/28, depending when senior finals will be for period 3.  All seniors go first.  Juniors can finish their presentations the next week.

MUSIC APPRECIATION SONG ANALYSIS AND PRESENTATION

Choose one song and create a musical analysis.  You may pick any song of your choice from any style (lyrics must be school appropriate).  Write about its musical style and characteristics.  Include the following:

Name of artist and title of the song.

Date and place song was written.

What style of music is it?

What is the tempo of the song?

What dynamics are used?

How does the song make you feel?

What images come to mind as you listen to the song.

Describe the overall mood of the song/piece.

What are the lyrics conveying to the listener?

You will present this in front of the class.  You may give power point presentation or make a presentation board.  Due Friday 5/24/13 or 5/28/13 (Depending on when Senior finals are for Period 3).

Music Appreciation - Aleatoric Composition

Materials – 1lb bag of rice for entire class, 2 sheets of staff paper per student

Students sit on the floor and use a binder or a book for something hard to write on.

Teacher passes out a tbs. of rice to each student and 2 sheets of staff paper.

On the first sheet of staff paper, students are to randomly throw their tbs. of rice down onto the staff paper. 

Then, mark the places where the rice has landed.

On the second sheet of staff paper, students will transfer their rice markings using whole, half, quarter notes, etc.

If students want their compositions heard, they can give it to the teacher and the teacher will play their compositions on the piano.
