The Geometry course covers all of the California state standards for Geometry, which are available at www.cde.ca.gov/be/st/ss/documents/mathstandards.pdf
The focus is on logical mathematical reasoning using the McDougall Littell (2001) geometry textbook, individual and group projects and the internet and software applications.
It is helpful for students to have their own ruler, compass and protractor.
I am available for students and parents a half hour before and after school and during lunch on most days. (Additional time can be scheduled as needed.) Students who have questions on coursework or homework should arrange to meet with me during those times. The easiest way to reach me is through my e-mail address at lcartwright@gvusd.k12.ca.us
In the next two weeks students will be designing packages for either an existing product or one they have created themselves. Students will be using the concepts from our last unit on surface area and volume to make sure that the designs have the same capacity. They will also need to calculate the surface area and do a cost analysis. This project will allow students to apply their knowledge in a creative and real-world way. The assignment and rubric are attached here:

We will also begin a review unit on algebra concepts to prepare students for Algebra II in the Fall.
