Welcome back to school from the Educational Services! One of our major focuses this year will be the identification of Essential and Enduring Standards in grades K-12 for the 2009-2010 English Language Arts/Reading/English Langauge Development Adoption. The process will begin in October. By the end of the year, we will have our first K-12 District Matrix for Golden Valley Unified School District in the area of English Language Arts!!! In addition, the entire District is focusing on Explicit Direct Instruction (EDI) through DataWORKS. Please see the link to DataWORKS.
I would also like to take this time to thank our entire Educational Services department for their commitment in providing systematic support for continuous improvement for all sites within the Golden Valley Unified School District. Our goal is to reach optimum levels of student achievement and assist in providing high quality classroom instruction and support which is essential for academic progress and the key to closing achievement gaps among racial, ethnic and socioeconomic groups of students. With that in mind, we will continue to encourage our staff to develop and use standards-driven/data-driven instructional strategies and approaches that will engage students deeply in their own learning and achievement.
