Dear Families,
My name is Mrs. Jennifer Woods. I will be your child’s second grade teacher for the 2011-2012 school year. Let me take a moment to tell you a little bit about myself. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies, an Early Childhood multiple subject teaching credential, and a Master’s in Early Childhood Education. I am in my 16th year of teaching. 15 of my 16 years of teaching have been right here at Webster. I have also been married for 16 years as well. I have two children at home that keep me very busy when I am not at school.
Goals
I have several goals this year for our second graders. In Language Arts I would like all of these kiddos to be reading fluently at grade level with comprehension. In writing I would like them to be able to write a story with beginning, middle, and ending components using lots of adjectives and most of their words spelled correctly. In math my goal is to teach them addition and subtraction of 2 and 3 digit numbers successfully. These are all goals that I know all of our children are capable of doing, but it’s going to take a lot of work for everyone involved.
Tests
The reading tests will be held at school in your child’s folder. I will send home a summary of how they did after completing each test. If you would like to see the test, you can make an appointment with me and we can go over your child’s test together. All other tests, spelling, science, and social studies, will come home when they are graded.
Homework
Homework will start to go home this week. I will send a packet home on Friday and it must be returned by Friday. If your child would like to get it done before Friday, they can turn it in early. If your child does not return their homework on Friday, they will lunch detention that day. Homework is a way for your child to learn responsibility. This is your child’s responsibility, not yours. Your job is to help them understand things that are confusing to them. I will not accept the excuse, “My mom (or dad) didn’t put it in my backpack.” Since this is their responsibility, they are the ones that should make sure that it gets put in their backpack and brought back to school.
Conferencing
If at any time during the school year you would like to conference with me, please don’t hesitate to ask. However, I have 2 children that go to Webster and they are in my classroom after school as well as other duties/meetings I may have to already participate in. If you would like to talk to me about your child, I ask you make prior arrangements with me so I can make arrangements for my children.
If you have any questions or concerns during any part of this school year please don’t hesitate to contact me at the school, 645-1322 or email me at jwoods@gvusd.k12.ca.us.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Woods
