Dear Family,

We have completed the STAR testing for the Accelerated Reading program.  In 4th grade, we will be learning how the Accelerated Reading Program works.  This year it is just for practice and for improving their reading skills.  We will have some fun with it while learning.

This is how it will work in 4th grade this year.  Each student will be expected to check out and read A/R (Accelerated Reading) books from our school library.  These books need to be within each child’s AR reading level.  After reading the book, your child will take a comprehension test on the computer.  A certain number of points are possible for each test.  If they get 100% they receive all the points. If they pass but don’t get them al right, they receive a portion of the points.  If they do not pass the test, they receive 0 points.  I have given each of the students a goal of earning 25 points by the middle of May.  That is a very achievable goal to reach if they try.  We will have an A/R party at the end of the year for all who reach the goal. If they do not reach this goal, they will be given an alternate activity to do during the pizza party.

Please encourage your child to participate in this program and try hard to get 25 points.  There will be a running record posted in class throughout the year if you ever want to check their progress.

Thank you for your support!
